Weathering the tests of life

This past week was one of those times you definitely don’t plan for. I’m thankful for the recent business successes both in terms of new clients and innovative initiatives we are exploring but as you probably know, things happen we definitely don’t expect or want.

Last week I shared some challenges with our dog who is like a gentle baby during the day but has a habit of turning into the proverbial werewolf after sunset. To keep her from annoying neighbors at night we often bring her in and let her stay in the bathroom until she settles down. Last weekend however she woke us up barking like crazy in the bathroom around 3am. Waking up we smelled something bad. A burning smell. We eventually learned the motor in the central air unit was burning out and we were without house wide heat for a few days. Needless to say I’m glad the dog woke us up as things could have been a lot worse.

Our car has also been experiencing a bad oil leak after getting it fixed the last time so this weekend it’s in the shop and we are “carless” until Monday. On top of that I am dealing with a lingering cough that I hope to get checked out next week. I am however glad of what we have learned during a difficult week. I’m starting to post some valuable life lessons I have learned in recent and upcoming posts on this blog.

Next week… Next I think is going to be much more interesting in a good way. We have at least three networking events we will be attending, a sales training event not to mention we get to turn the clocks ahead an hour this evening.  I’m really looking forward to “longer days” even if it is just a perception of the clock.

In all that mess I see a great ray of hope. You brought the dog in out of respect for the sleep of your neighbors and the dog saved you from possibly dealing with a burning house. So often our interruptions are more important than the task they have crashed into. Good to hear I’m not the only one saying, “When is this going to let up?”
