Twitter Is My Newspaper?
by November 10th, 2008 Heather GreerAn interesting thing happened recently–I was using Twitter (a microblogging, social media web site) while working–I typically have it running in the background and whenever someone I follow sends out a little message it pops up for a second which gives me just enough time to read it.
Anyway, I’m working away and a message pops up that Michael Crichton had passed away. This was the first I heard of it. That night, I talk to Patrick and ask if he’d heard about it or not. He said that yes, he had heard about it through Twitter as well.
It hit me that Twitter seems to be at least in part, turning into a place to get my headline news–will I be hearing about more news stories on Twitter first in the future? I think the answer is yes.
If you would like to follow me on Twitter, go to twitter.com , set up a free account and look for coderheatherj. I check through every so often to see who is following me and often will follow them back as well.

One thing about Twitter - it doesn’t always function perfectly. When I tried to find you, I got a message telling me that they’re working on the problem.
Can you post your twitter contact instead?

True, Twitter does have it’s issues. I think the concept is still in the early stages and they are having growing pains. I like to call it a “human stock ticker” for lack of a better term. If you’re not already following me my page is http://twitter.com/linkerjpatrick
