Tips for the new business blogger

by October 3rd, 2007 Patrick Greer

Quite a few of our clients are asking us to develop web site that incorporate the ability to blog and we are very excited about this tool people can use to post new content that will encourage return visits to their sites. We also know that blogging for the first time can be quite scary. I remember it took me quite a while to get into the mindset of how I should blog and to get past the stage of what I thought blogging was. Here are some tips for the first time business blogger.

1.) Remember who your readers are. Depending on your business your readers may not be interested in the technical specifications of your industry. Are you an automotive shop? Resist the temptation to share your in depth knowledge of oil grades or engine blocks and instead think about things they might be interested in like daily maintenance tips, etc.

2.) Your posts don’t always have to be an in depth article. Consider a tip of the day, announcement about upcoming specials or a checklist.

3.) Your posts don’t always have to be words. Got a photo that can tell its own story? Post a photo or a new product, location, etc.

4.) Finally don’t forget to read the blogs of both those in your industry and anyone else in your market and leave meaningful comments with a link back to your site.
