The Aspects of Design - - Part 11: 11, Purple Cows and the Big Moo
by January 14th, 2008 Patrick GreerA very humorous scene in the movie, “This is Spinal Tap” shows a member of a rock band talking to an interviewer about how the bands amp goes to “11″.
While the concept of “11″ in Spinal Tap was a joke they are aspects to consider when it comes to design, your companies images, products and services. 11 is the Atomic number of sodium which has many properties you should consider when it comes to your design and products. Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the moon and the term, “the eleventh hour” refers to the last possible moment to make a decision. Does your design help people make the “11th Hour decision?” Don’t just think of 11 something that is just supposed to be louder but something that goes above and beyond the expected.later this week this blog will feature an interview with Seth Godin, author a new book called Meatball Sundae and also Purple Cow and editor of “The Big Moo“. A Purple Cow being a product or service that stands out from the ordinary. The Big Moo however takes the concept of a Purple Cow to “11″ in the sense of not just standing out but rising above and beyond expectations. How has this series on design made you think about how you can develop, organize, secure and share your story, products and services to be more remarkable? Are you making more noise by cranking it up to 11 or are you creating compelling content that people want to identify with and embrace?
