Searches that have lead people here
by August 28th, 2008 Patrick GreerI’ve been keeping an eyes on our web site stats and among those stats are search terms people have used and our site came up in the search results. Some of the most interesting ones are;
- media web development greenville sc
- adobe users Group greenville,sc
- adobe photoshop classes - greenville,sc
- small church web design,sc
An interesting note, even though our primary product is web site development the most common search term that brings people to us is photography. Photography is an important part of our business and we do provide it as a service especially for clients we develop e-commerce web sites for to show their products from something as small as a lapel pin to built homes both exterior and interior optimized for web viewing. Of course one of the reasons we exist is to help other businesses market themselves and a majority of those are in the Greenville,SC area so “marketing Greenville” is a search term that is not unexpected. Graphic design (which covers photo editing, logo design and aspects of web design is understandable as well.
It is true we use Adobe’s range of software products to create and enhance images for our clients in the business arena but the search terms of “adobe users Group greenville,sc”, and “Adobe photoshop classes - greenville,sc” with actually be the focus of another web site/another business I am working on. I had set up linkerjpatrick.com as my personal web site using the user name I most commonly use on the Internet but I have decided that on that site I want to focus on photography and more specifically photography services aimed at the consumers who wants old photos restored to as close to the original state as possible or enhanced with color or other effects.
Reading web site stats in not something people often think about doing but it is one of the advantages over old media like magazines and newspapers. You can get information on what you audience is like and what they are looking for. I looked at some of those search result and pages on our site they were pointing to and while it was nice our site was getting hit from those searches the pages themselves sometimes didn’t have the exact information people were looking for? While some searches can not mean much some others might help you with the following;
- Generating future blog topics - If people are already coming to your site searching for something why not write specifically about it if it is relevant to what you and your business do?
- Explore offering a new service - I don’t officially teach photoshop or other Adobe products but maybe I should consider an instructors certification and offer classes. It is something I am passionate about teaching others to do.
- Fine tuning your current wordage and SEO strategies on your web site. Maybe people are coming to your web site via the wrong search terms.
How can you make the information on your web site easier to find? Are you regularly checking on how people find your site and business?
