Ready for some stories?

by August 10th, 2007 Patrick Greer

If you have noticed a little lull on my part in the past couple of days I have not been feeling well plus I have had a couple of nights of minimal sleep and have been backed up on a number of projects as our business is busting at the seams. On Wed. August 8th, 2007 I drove down to Greenwood,SC to speak to a group of business people about a technology I am very passionate about and see a great potential for both readers and distributors of information, Yes, I’m talking about RSS, blogging and podcasting. Most of the people in the group had heard of blogs, experienced dynamic news updates via tickers and of course have heard of podcasts.

While those terms are starting to get familiar to most computer users concepts like using an RSS reader instead of an e-mail program or web browser to get new updates, using blogging to increase awareness about your business services and knowledge in your field are concepts still not as familiar to the general population. This part talk was the third time I have given this talk to date and each time those who have attended participated by asking more about the technology, how they can use it in their business, etc.

Each time I have given the talk I have discretely showed my iPhone and people loved seeing it. One reason I have the iPhone is to quickly access the info I need via RSS in the from of podcasts, web based feed readers and even the stock and weather widgets. The fact that people want to see the iPhone (or are interested in similar devices) are a good example of how we are moving to portable media mindset and RSS is one of those technologies that have made mobile devices more valuable in terms of quickly accessing information and accessing it in a very usable format.

I called this post, “Ready for some stories?” because that’s an alternative definition for RSS I discovered on another web site when doing research for my talk and I did want to share the stories of my recent talks.
