Presentation at Upstate Entrepreneur’s Forum
by October 9th, 2007 Patrick GreerBelow are notes from the presentation I did with Ben Young at the Upstate Entrepreneur’s Forum last night.
After a brief introduction by Paul Bryant Ben Young of BigBlueHat and Patrick Greer of SpinningSilk Multimedia gave a presentation on effectively getting your business message out. Ben started off by talking about some content management systems he had dealt with in the past and how their shortcoming inspired him to write a more user friendly one. A content management system is designed so a user can update and add content to their web site without having to deal with the design or back end coding of the web site. A good content management system should let the content provider focus on his or her area of expertise without the technology getting in the way.
Ben mentioned that they are several popular content management systems on the market but he has a vision of what his can do and fill a niche not being meet by current offerings. Ben’s program is called Blue Ink and Blue Ink is used to on this very site.
After Ben talked about Blue Ink Patrick Greer took the stage and went into what you do once you have the content management system in place. Patrick’s company, SpinningSilk Multimedia recently annouced a commitment to making compelling content the first priority of their business. Patrick touched of the fact that a web designer or web developer is not usually the expert when it comes to the content of the site, why you should focus on a niche and how to talk to your audience on their level. It was requested that we provide links to sites mentioned during the talk. I have already posted link the Ben’s and Patrick’s companies above. Here are some more;

Patrick encouraged those in attendance to try out some of the free services to get familiar and comfortable with the technology and when the time is right work with companies like BigBlueHat and SpinningSilk Multimedia to position you and your company to deliver compelling content in an official manner.
Phil Yanov, who heads up the local technology networking organization known as GSATC mentioned that the GSATC uses the wordpress platform to get out a very successful blog and information on meetings and local tech news.
