Play is serious business

Let’s face it, people like fun. Fun is big business and even if something is used for business purposes people don’t like to feel they have to work to get something done. I mentioned in the past our company bought an iPhone. Despite some of the controversies regarding AT&T contracts, a locked in platform and being first release product we know it’s important to invest in developing for products the general public not only uses but enjoys using. The iPhone may not be the only device in it’s class we will get but it is definitely part of our strategy.

I have been developing and designing web sites since the mid 90’s and while I have enjoyed the challenges and process of working with the code on the back-end it can be a big distraction and encumbrance to anyone wanting to share their stories or marketing message online. Thankfully content management systems, blogging systems and photo sharing services have started to bring the fun sharing unique stories and images to more of our general population. I’m having more fun now with my photography and writing than I have in years.

That being said I would not have discovered some of the more fun but useful and productive applications out there if I had not had an attitude and openness to having fun and trying out new things. An attitude of fun and exploring open my mind to technology and computers in general, blogging, podcasting, RSS, photography, graphic design. Are you playing and exploring to keep your mind open to new possibilities for business and personal growth?
