Making new memories by preserving old ones
by September 19th, 2007 Patrick GreerI’m not one who is very big on materialism despite my interests in technology and various gadgets. The holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are significant events in my culture. Christmas in particular is known as being many things to many people. To some it has great religious significance, to others it’s a special time for family and friends to gather and it is also a time for festive parties, colorful lights and inspirational music.
I admit I struggle greatly when it comes to the tradition of giving gifts to others. I don’t struggle because I have to spend money. I struggle because I want to giving something that is perfect for that person. Sometimes what you think is the perfect gift is not what you think it is. I often hear and I greatly agree that it is hard to buy for someone who loves or works in technology.
Some of the most popular gifts in recent years have been digital camera from a very small point and shoot to a high end digital SLR but how many of us have old photos stored away in boxes fading in color, scratched and torn? In my opinion one of the best gifts we can give to others is a preserved family history. Last year money was very tight for me at Christmas time and I didn’t have a lot to spend on gifts for people but I did have Photoshop skills I could put to good use. I was able to find some special family photos, one was about 90 years old and featured my grandmother as a baby. Not only was I able to create a new a better looking print but with the help of other relatives I was able to add color to a photo when color was not available when it was taken.
If you have old photos just sitting in a box gathering dust please consider preserving those irreplaceable memories. SpinningSilk Multimedia would love to help you enhance these special heirlooms with reprints, creative ways to share on the web and various forms of portable media. We also have a lot of other creative ideas of ways you can use our multimedia skills to help you share your unique story.
