Is your business experiencing the “summer slump”?

by August 7th, 2007 Patrick Greer

Traditionally the time between June 21 and Sept. 21 is when business slows down except for the travel and related industries. Last year about this time was the lowest time in our business ever as it was the first summer my wife and I experienced being self-employed. At the beginning of this year we hired our first employee, Nancy Gentry who came in to help with various areas of marketing and freed us up to work on creative projects, programming and developing our business.

This time of the year is still slow but we are in the mist of some very big projects in addition to working on some internal goals. In the past when I worked for other companies it was equally slower and sometimes the places would only be open for half a day on Friday. This is a normal trend but it’s important to be prepared. What do you do in the slump?

  • Create new opportunities?
  • Work on your own affairs?
  • Get training for yourself and employees?
  • Prepare for the fall season?

How can SpinningSilk Multimedia help you doing the calm before the storm of the later half of the year? This might a good time to consider adding compelling photography or written material.

I’ve been doing this for 10 years and have actually come to COUNT on the summer slow down as a time to work on my own projects.

Last summer I finished writing my first book which turned out to be an INCREDIBLE marketing piece for my business. So much so that THIS summer I haven’t had the traditional “summer slow down”.

I must admit, I was disappointed when it failed to appear “on schedule” this year as I had SEVERAL projects for myself scheduled during the slow time.
