Be Afraid or Be Crazy

by November 13th, 2006 Patrick Greer

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about the decisions I make in regards to my business. One thing I have often struggled with is fear and worry. Fear that I will spend money and have it be a lost cause or worry what others will think.  If you let fear come in and take control it can make you irrational in a bad way.

However I have begun to finally understand the gem of taking chances and being crazy from the very beginning. I call it “crazy” because my initial thought is I am doing something stupid.  It’s not really crazy however.  It’s trusting myself to make decisions on what I know.  Others don’t know what I know and haven’t done the research I have done. It’s scary to take a risk and to step out and do something for the first time.

If you feel you need to buy that laptop, digital camera, hire an experienced web or print designer, advertise in a new medium, etc. Then follow your gut.  You might be pleasantly surprised that it was the best decision you ever made.

I was reminded of this in a way by a recent post in the Brains on Fire Blog.
