Are your morning “blog biscuits” canned or homemade?

by September 12th, 2008 Patrick Greer

biscuits-honey.jpgI was inspired by a friend’s twitter tweet this morning for the title of this post. He said he was making buscuits and it wasn’t metaphor but if it was what would it be about? I couldn’t resist. Writing a blog post in the morning is like getting up early to make biscuits. Sometimes blogs posts can be nothing more than placing a prepackaged form in your own writers oven and adding your own bit of butter or jam.

However just like homemade biscuits made from scratch, a blog post, based on the original thoughts of the writer, takes more time but more often than not are more enjoyable and have better flavor.

Just like biscuits, blog posts are often written or at least published and cooked in the morning.

A biscuit is best when it’s warm. A warm blog post can mean that the information is new and relevant or is easier to digest by the reader.

Photos or other images that are to the eye what butter, jam or honey is to the taste.

It’s important to kept a biscuit in the oven log enough to be done but should not be over cooked.

When you write your next blog post think about the biscuits. Are they homemade, cooked completely but not overdone and served with tasty spreads? In other words how original is your thinking? Has it been edited but not overly wordy and are you putting images in your posts to draw the eye and make the experience more enjoyable?

Original, made from scratch “blog” biscuits or other creative writing can be worth my time or utter gibberish. This is the old white haired woman talking, Patrick. After pursuing writing fresh thoughts for decades I have concluded Adam and Eve were the last ones with anything original to say. We all develop our messages from the “pool” of lifetime accummulation of all we’ve read or heard.

Copy and paste with a flip in the air is lazy writing. I usually can tell when someone has their heart and passion in their writing. Even if it’s a “biscuit mix” or a fine brand of “canned” biscuits, I can tell if the words are alive to the writer/poster. So, I’m not entralled with “original” and made from scratch. That goes for my biscuits I eat with my morning coffee or with the blogs I read.

Show me your passion and heart: otherwise I’m outta’ here!!

Good points Kay. I guess I can clarify more. It is really hard of writing to be “original” but I suppose the main difference between canned and scratch is who has greater control over the process. Canned can be pretty good at times. I love those biscuits that peel off in layers (can’t remember the brand name) but when I cook biscuits or anything else from the raw ingredients I have more control over the process by deciding how much of each thing I need to add or subtract.

Even with canned biscuits we can add our own favorite butter, jam or honey.

You may often find a lot of blogs who literally steal content from other bloggers as their own or commenters who have nothing to say but “Me too!” or “I agree!” Thankfully Kay I will have to say I do read your blog and even though you may not agree you cook up some mean made from scratch “blog biscuits” and your comments are also fresh and “original too!
