11 Great Investments

Seeing the stocks drop makes me think of two things. As far as the stocks themselves I almost laugh at the panic going on. In fact a few of the stocks I have I hope the drop a little more so I can invest more in the near future but much more inportantly I am reminded that they are a lot of things people don’t invest in but they should and invest a lot;

1.) Education - I’m not just talking about a formal education or even certification. Yes those are important but are you trying out new technologies, reading, etc?

2.) Photography - Do you have a camera or are you getting help from a photographer to preserve valuable memories?

3.) Sleep - Getting good sleep is one of the best things for your physical health and mind.

4.) Friends - They say you can’t have enough friends. A network of like minded but diverse friends can give support, advice, etc.

5.) Family - Cat’s in the Cradle - ’nuff said.

6.) Faith - Are you spending time practicing your faith? Prayer, study, giving, loving others?

7.) Organization - The simple but often short term time consuming act of organization can be grueling in the beginning but in the end can save you time and thus help free you up to earn a lot more money.

8.) Productivity Tools -  I’ve heard over and over again that people might be spending less on technology during harder economic times. It’s tempting to want to reduce your internet speed, do away with a cell phone but before you quickly abandon something consider if it could be a tool that could help you save and earn money in the long run.

9.) Exercise - You don’t have to join a gym.  You can start walking right out your front door.  I like to do double duty and listen to educational podcasts or audio books when walking on my iPod or iPhone.

10.) Backups - I wrote a previous article on backups of all kinds but if you are going to spend any money on technology I highly encourage everyone to buy at least an external hard drive but also an off site backup solution.  I’ve said over and over again that insurance can help buy new equipment but if critical files are lost no insurance policy can recover them.  Don’t lose important business files and don’t lose precious family memories.  I will be doing backup as soon as a finish this article on my way to do some errands.

11.) Community -  Are you investing in your local neighborhood, town, state and country? What are you doing to improve conditions? Are you taking advantage of the services you are paying for with taxes? Do you vote? My town is Greenville,SC and I’m thankful for the many ways the city is involving the local community to help improve the local environment such as Plan it Greenville, etc.
