10 Serious blog commenting mistakes

by September 3rd, 2007 Patrick Greer

I’ve often suggested how important it is to post comments on other blogs as a way to drive potential traffic to your own blog/website but as in all things there is a proper was to go about leaving comments. Problogger.com has posted 10 Ways to Hurt your Blogs’s Brand by Commenting On Other Blogs.

I can remember some of my earlier days on the Internet when my “newbie” status really revealed itself and sometimes I had good intentions when playing the “dumb guy” you often see on a lot of “how to” shows but a lot of people will only see the post as dumb and not someone asking a question to generate response.

I like to think of commenting on a blog in the same way of being given the microphone during a follow up Q&A session after someone speaks at a conference. Everybody is watching you, gauging your intelligence or lack thereof and while you may have the mic for a short period of time it is not your mic. Respect blog owners, forum moderators. The same practice carries over into real life situations as well.
